video question and answer

May 19th, 2008

Quite inspired by Russel Prue and his fascinating talk I decided to try posing a question to some students in the form of a video, and getting them to respond with their own videos.

We’re studying homeostasis so their videos will be about diabetes. Mine is horribly basic and terribly edited, but this is something I’m sure I’ll improve on, and I have no doubts the students will produce something a million times slicker than I ever could.

We’re using windows movie maker to create the videos, flickr to find images to use, and youtube to host and show off the videos themselves. I’ll update this as and when the work comes streaming (pun intended) in.

Sadly for the majority of students the technology here didn’t want to play, and while they created a great series of images, converting it to video was impossible.

For a couple of students though; we had some really great outcomes. They were scientifically interesting videos, there’s a healthy dose of wit and most importantly, they had a great time making them.
